Heroes and Castles Ranger Stats
Like most of the other classes, the main stats that you want to focus on is damage. As a ranged attacker, you have very little health and armor to withstand any major attacks. Your biggest asset is the ability to kill monsters from afar. With the addition of marksman skill, you can do some serious damage if you manage to hit the enemies from afar. Thus, focus on getting damage up for your ranger!
Ranger Skills Discussed
Rangers Active Skills
Fire Arrows
6s,50 s cooldown
9s, 47s cooldown
12s, 44s cooldown
15s, 41s cooldown
18s, 38s cooldown
All of ranger’s shots will shoot straight, and can shoot through multiple enemies for a time. This is one of your strongest mob control skill in the game. Fire Arrow when combined with Marksman can deal insane amount of damage to all the enemies in a straight line. Max this skill as soon as you can and grind in endless mode for some fast leveling.
Hunting Trap
Places a trap on the field that hurts and stuns enemies that walk over it. Has a 3s setup time.
This skill looks good at first glance, but its attack and damage capability becomes weaker against more advanced and higher enemies at later time. You can consider putting one point into it for the stun effect. Although we did not put any points into our Heroes and Castles ranger skill build.
Elven Arrows
Archers and Arrow Towers are upgraded with Elven Arrows for 20s, giving them bonus damage and range.
Do not get this skill as archers and arrow towers are weak in nature. They are no use to you if they die in battle early on against enemies ranged attackers. You are better off spending these skill points on your damage stats.
Ranger Passive Skills
Spread Shot
Gives a chance to shoot 3 arrows in a spread. Each upgrade gives an additional 7% chance.
This is a strong skill that can potential triple your damage output. This skill is especially useful when you are attacking up close with stronger enemies. If you are lucky enough you may even one shot kill big enemies such as troll or orc chieftains. Max this earlier on in the game too.
Marksman
Your arrows deal extradamagethe further away a target is.
First level +150% damage and 25% additional damage for each level.
We would recommend putting one point early on in the game for this skill. The additional damage will help you to aim and one shot some of the mobs. This skill combines with fire arrow and spread shot which makes it extra powerful. Your long range shots all have a chance of critical and killing anything in its path.
Brambles
Enemies that are hit are slowed for a time, with a chance to be stunned.
We personally think this skill is weaker compared to the other skills. Only get this when you begin to start playing in versus mode. The slow debuff can mess your opponents and leave them open to your attacks.
Heroes and Castles Ranger Gameplay Strategies
The ranger is a really weak melee attacker compared to the other classes. You will need to be constantly on the move. With HP so low, you typically die really fast against the enemies at lower level. The key about the ranger is that although its attacking range is very long, the projectile has an arc which can take you some time to get used too. If you are good enough you can even take down the enemy catapults while staying behind your castle walls.
You want to train the following rangers skills:
Max Fire Arrow
Max Spreadshot
1 Point in Marksman and Max it when you have enough damage to one shot wraiths.
Optional points in Brambles for PvP purposes.
For the best Ranger rune, your best bet is either Damage rune to buff your damage either further, or HP rune to help you take more damage. You can pick either one depending on your play style, if you die too often too easily, consider going for the HP. However if you execute and control your character ranger well, go for the maximum damage output.
In terms of building out your defenses, consider using the melee troops to help you absorb damage early on. As you progress and level up higher, go for the castle wall defense similar to the engineer’s tactic. Your goal is to use yourself as the main firepower to defend your castle.
Lastly, for the endless or coop mode, consider focusing on your castle wall defense. When all the monsters are attacking your castle wall, rush to either far side of enemies and shoot them down the line. Your firearrow + marksman combo can quick mow down those enemies quick. However your only concern is to make sure that your castle walls can withstand the attacks. You will usually die if you fail to defend the wall as a ranger.
