Introduction Summary
Battling in Soulcalibur: Unbreakable Soul is half of the game. In this complete battle guide, we will go through all the different factors and features that can help you win the game. Use these combat strategies to help you pass more stages without losing.
The strategies gone over in this include weapon elemental, battle commands, throw command, and friend support.
Please feel free to leave comments if you have found other useful strategies!
To summarize this guide that helps you win battle:
Rotate your Avatar so you can use heal whenever needed.
Equip strongest weapons with advantage element.
Use strongest support with heal weapon ability.
Put together charge combos by combining two different command combos.
Throw when you are in a corner and Attack often.
Player and Weapon Selections
The players from your edit card screens are used during the battle. Each player card can fight in three rounds of battles. Since each Avatar equips three weapons, each of of the weapon is used for one of the fighting round. For example:
Avatar 1 Weapon 1 is used for round 1.
Avatar 1 Weapon 2 is used for round 2.
Avatar 2 Weapon 1 is used for round 4….and so on.
You can check the round setup from the Deck edit screen.
Basic Battle Flow
You and your opponent cast different battle commands. Attacks are exchanged and whoever either rings out or lose all HP loses. It should note that you automatically lose if you run out of time as well.
You have two special buttons which are heal and SP charging attack. The heal is shown as the heart icon and is tied to your Avatars, it appears to recharge over time. The SP charging attack is charged through your battle.
Weapon Durability
The weapon durability or “sharpness” is shown as the blue bar underneath your character. Every time you attack or guard some durability is lost. The weapon loses much of its effect when it goes to zero. However, they “reset” with the ending of every round. That is usually a good indicator to see if your weapon is too weak for any given stage. However, in general you will either win or lose before the weapon goes to zero.
Weapon Skills
Your avatar’s main weapon card can be used during your battles. Each weapon card can be used for each of the round. The weapon skills can be tapped right below the SP bard. Different weapons have different skills include Heal, ATK UP, DEF UP, Weapon durability or condition UP, Timer UP.
Timing of Attack Activation
It is important for you to time your attacks, especially the strong attacks such as charge combo, secret, or SP attacks. You do not want to “miss” your strong strikes simply because your opponent is on the floor. Depending on your position relative to the enemies, sometimes you can strike them while they are on the floor too. Test and practice with your avatar to find out the best combination of attacks.
Weapon Elemental Weakness
The weapon cards come with different elements. By checking out the element for the stage before you start, change your weapon element to deal more damage. You can see the element of the weapon by checking the details of your weapon card.
The game includes 5 different elements. Fire, Water, Air, Light and Dark.
The strength and weakness is as followed: Air > Water > Fir > Air. Light and Dark are effective against each other.
Battle Command
Battle commands are the basic building block of this fighting game, you determine the order and strategy of your future moves by adding battle commands to your queue.
Basic Battle Command
There are four types of basic commands in Soulcalibur: Unbreakable Soul. These basic commands are: Vertical Cut, Horizontal Cut, Kick, and Secret. The type of commands do not seem to affect the damage done or if the opponent can block your attacks. Below is a quick summary of these basic commands to help you make the right combat decision.
Vertical Slash: Effective against horizontal slash, hits with long reach.
Horizontal Cut: Strong blade swipe directed sideways.
Kick: Quick attack.
Secret: Powerful finishing blow.
The frequency of the battle commands is dependent on your weapon card’s stats. You can check the card’s detail to get the command ratio count.
Guarding
When you go through the round exchange without using any cards, you can “block” enemy attacks.
Advanced Combo Commands
You learn this early on during the tutorial. You can “combine” the commands so that they do more damage. The combination done is automatically when you have three alike cards together. The key is to observe your board to see if you have two or more cards, then use those singled out commands in hope of drawing the third combined cards.
You can setup your weapon based on their command ratios, this is a basic numbers game. You mainly have two strategy to follow:
Small Combo Chain: Focus on one of the battle command so that they appear often. This way you can always deal a three card soulchain combos.
Max Combo Chain: You want your weapon card to have the three command ratio evenly Vertical Cut, Horizontal Cut, Kick. This way all of them have equal chance of appearing. This strategy can deal massive damage, but you will need a strong enough character for you to setup your deck.
It should also note that if you have an advanced command combo chain greater than opponent’s level, the attack will break through their defense.
Secret Combos can stack as well, but only with other secret battle commands, because secret commands are rare, it makes stacking an advanced secret combo even harder.
Charge command
Charge command is a powered up combo command. You get this when combining two or more different advanced combo commands. They typically deal tons more damage and have the potential to instantly kill enemies.
Advanced command card of a different type, will change if you have two or more overlapping
SP Charge command
Tap the SP gauge icon when the SP gauge is at maximum, to send some command to stuck area, SP Charge Command will be added to Command Area. SP charge is a special attack is a special command that will deal more damage. Always use them whenever you have filled up your SP charge bar.
Command Carryover
This strategy is a powerful one that can help you stages that you might have lost. If you have noticed, your battle commands carry to the subsequent rounds after you finish off your current opponent. This means that if you have advanced combo or charged combo, you can save them till the next round. It is especially useful when you are close to killing off the current round enemy.
Throw Command Activation
Throwing your opponent is a very important command as it can counter opponent’s guard, it can also break you out of potential ring out situations. The Throw command is activate with rarity R or higher card. The throw command automatically appears at the right most command.
However, if the card at the right end are “SP-charge command” or “secret command”, those commands will activate preferentially. This means that your throw command can be delayed.
Friend Support System
Before you start your quest, you can get friend support from a card that you see. Having a high level friend support can boost the damage, defense, and HP of all the characters.
The key to select a good friend is to first select one with high rarity, level, and useful skill. In general, we find that “heal” skill is the best as it is really the only way for you to recover HP during mid battle.
Ring Out System
Ring out is an instant kill system that can make you one shot win or lose at a heart beat. The key is to be on the offensive by attacking often. The more attacks that you land, the more likely that you can make your opponent ring out.
You do not want to miss too many turns as you will be pushed back by continuously guarding. In addition, throw can be a good way to get out of being cornered and ring out.
Battle Bonus
Depending on how well you do with the battle, you can earn varying amount of bonuses. Below is a list of the battle bonus that you can achieve in the game.
