Basic Dragon Breeding Background Information
The basic of Dragon City breeding is taught during tutorial. You will first have to level up your dragon via feeding to at least level 4. Build a building ground such as Breeding Mountain or Breeding Tree, then you can select which of the dragon that you would like to breed. It will take some time for the dragons to create the eggs and even more time for the eggs to hatch. The types of offspring is dependent on the parents. In addition, there is some sort of luck involved in breeding that you may not get the dragon you are looking for 100% of the time.
When you first start the game, we recommend you to start from generation 1 and breed a couple high generation dragons. As you move further in the game, you will have enough gold to purchase more advanced genes to make even more gold.
Level Exclusive Breeding
Level exclusive breeds require Both of the Dragon Parents to be at a certain level before they can be produced. However, if you are going for “non level exclusive” breeds, it is best to use lower level dragons, as higher level parents can actually lower your breeding rate by introducing level exclusive offspring possibilities.
If you have a legend dragon, breeding the dragon with element has a chance to produce the level exclusive dragons. However, it is not recommended to use legends as a breeding pair when you are going for them. As the odds are significantly lower than if you just use the correct parent pair.
Basic Breeding Dragons
To start breeding the dragons, you must first have these basic building blocks. You must purchase these dragons from eggs because you do not have the parents to generate and mate for these basic dragons.
Nature Dragon
Flame Dragon
Terra Dragon
Sea Dragon
Electric Dragon
Ice Dragon
Metal Dragon
Dark Dragon
Archangel Dragon (Light Dragon)
War Dragon
Pure Dragon

Generation 3 Dragon Breeding – Legendary
The dragon breeding list for the legendary rank is well, pretty rare. You really have to rely heavily on your luck to get a shot at landing these dragons.
The only way for you to breed a legend dragon is by breeding dragon pairs with either a Pure element or Legend element. The odds of getting a legendary dragon though is pretty low clocked at roughly 1% breeding chance.
The best breeding combination for legendary elemental dragons is by breeding together Pure + Pure for all of the legendary dragon breed ranks.
Pure + Pure is the best breeding combination to breed Dragon City legendary dragons.
Legendary Dragon
Crystal Dragon
Wind Dragon
Mirror Dragon
Nirobi
Droconos
Breeding Sanctuary – Unlock the Dragon Temple
The breeding sanctuary is a new feature that let you “unlock” more breedable dragons as you level up the sanctuary. It is best if you simply breed through all of the levels to unlock the temple gradually. If you are going to collect the dragon breeds anyways, there is no point to try to spend more gold or even gems to rush through the unlock process.
To get the best odds if you want to mass produce the dragons in the Dragon Sanctuary Temple.

Deus Vault – The Unique Dragon Research
After a long time, Dragon City has finally gotten some nifty new updates that can keep all the players busy. At the time of updating the Dragon City Breeding guide, only unique dragons from the past are currently available in the Deus Vault. We expect completely unique dragons to be available in the future. Update Note: Deus Vault can no longer be purchased. However, the players who have built this prior to the deletion of this special breeding building can still access the features.
To breed the Dragon City unique dragons, you WILL have to do the research first to obtain the formula. As it seems that Socialpoint is still fine tuning the cost of these research. Once you have completed the research, you will obtain the secret dragon breeding formulas to breed unique dragons. However, we have provided the following unique dragon breeding combos to help you get started even before you obtain the right research.
Like all of the available dragon breeding recipes listed in this guide. These combos are not 100%. Depending on the different unique dragon breeds, we estimate the chances to be roughly 15%~25%. This means that you may still have to do a couple of tries before you can get the unique dragons. MAKE SURE YOU DO THE RESEARCH before attempting these breeding combos. Breed attempts without the proper research done has 0% chance of succeeding.
Please note that we have opt out to put research cost of these associated unique dragon breeds. We expect the price to fluctuate a bit during their A/B testing. Your best bet is to buy and complete any Deus Vault unique dragon research if they are available in gold.

Dragon City Breeding Strategy and Notes
Notes: Dragon City Opposing Element Breeding
In this list that we have provided, there are some breeds that include elements that are opposed to each other. This means that you cannot normally breed them directly. However, you can use hybrid dragons that contain the opposing elements to breed the hybrid dragons. Because hybrid is used in the breeding process, this means that you will not be able to get the dragon that you want 100% of the time, so just keep on trying until you breed the Dragon City dragons that you need!
Notes: Dragon City Breeding Rarity Booster
Just in the past week of October, the Dragon City developer has opened a new feature named the Breeding Rarity Booster which can be used to boost your breeding chances. Based on some preliminary testing on our part, we have determined the rate to be roughly “twice” of its original breeding chance.
This means that “if” you have roughly 30% chance at getting legendary ranked dragons, with the rarity booster you will have doubled that amount at 60%. However, with the same reasoning, the effect of rarity booster is really limited when it comes to Pure and Pure Element combinations. We estimate the chance of breeding the Pure ranked dragons at about 5~10%. Which means that the Rarity booster really only effectively gives you 5%~10% more (nevertheless it still doubles the chance which helps you get them twice as fast, or even faster). Please note that we do not have the exact % of breeding chances, we simply observe that the Rarity booster is dependent on the original “rare” chance.
Gamelytic’s verdict on Dragon Breed Rarity Booster: It will be a better investment into breeding trees if you have not done so. Save your precious gems for the special event dragons instead of pushing for higher breeding success chance via the Rarity booster. When you get to a later level, there is much left to do except to collect the event dragons while letting your Dragon breeding schedule run.
Notes: Update for Dragon Breeding Times
The breeding time for dragon city is purely based on the final egg. For example, the rarer the eggs, the more breeding time that they require. Because of such, sometimes to go for specific rare or hybrid rare egg breeding, you would want to go for pairs that generate lesser possibility of rares to optimize your breeding process.
The breeding combinations listed have taken the rare and breeding time into consideration. You will achieve the best breeding results using our recommended combos to get all of your rares in Dragon City.
