How to Start Crafting
To start crafting in the Last Stand: Dead Zone, you first need to build Weapons Bench and Gear Bench located under the construction tab. Both of the structures require at least level 2 work bench to be built. As you upgrade and level up your Dead Zone related crafting buildings, you can unlock additional schematics or formulas to crafting weapons or gears. After you have build the crafting buildings, you will be able to unlock the crafting and upgrading feature of the game.
Crafting Schematics
As you level up and upgrade the crafting buildings include Weapon and gear, you will receive default crafting recipes that you can use directly. However, you can also loot special schematics through various playable mission maps in the Last Stand: Dead Zone. The drop rate of these unique schematics are quite low so you will have to play quite a bit to receive them. However, these schematics typically offer unique or strong weapons and gears. It is noted by the developer ConArtist at current time that you should save your unused Schematic for future features.
Actual Last Stand: Dead Zone Crafting
When you are inside the crafting menu, you can use different filters to quickly sort through the gears that you want to craft. The crafted equipment offers additional bonuses that make them stronger than the non crafted counter parts. Typically speaking, higher level weapons and gears require additional materials than the lower level ones. In additional to the crafting materials required, you will also spend an item level divided by 2 of fuel cost. This means that higher level item crafts can become quite costly in Last Stand: Dead Zone fuel cost. However, the resulting gears will and do outshine the other items currently available in game.

The Last Stand: Dead Zone Item Upgrading Levels
The upgrade feature can increase the damage of the weapons that you love to use. The upgrade will increase the base damage of the weapons and do not affect the various bonuses that they offer. In addition, you can only upgrade the equipment up to their proposed maximum level.
Level 2 Crafting Bench upgrades gears level 2 and 3.
Level 3 Crafting Bench upgrades gears level 4 and 5.
Level 4 Crafting Bench upgrades gears level 6 and 7.
And so on.
The upgrade does not cost any materials other than fuel. The Last Stand: Dead Zone upgrade feature is a good way to strengthen your weapons with good stats.
