Introduction
Like most of the trading card games, to successfully beat the game and pass the stages, you will have to build out a stronger deck consisted of Avatars and weapons. In this guide, we will go over everything that you need to know about getting your deck ready for battle. Please note that this walkthrough guide is more written for beginners of the game. Advanced players or pros may find this guide too easy.
We will go over how to get stronger Avatar and weapon cards, how to improve and upgrade them, and what to look for in the best deck building strategy. Please feel free to comment if you have other helpful hints!
Card Basics
We will first go over the basic of the cards in the game. There are two main category of cards: Avatar and Weapon.
Avatar and Weapons
Avatars: Avatars are the “player” characters that you see on your battling screen. Each of the Avatars have weapon mastery which determines that type of weapons that they can use. Each Avatar fights for three rounds for each of the battles which requires 3 different weapon cards.
Weapons: Weapons have elements which can deal more damage to the element that they are strong against. Different weapons have their unique skills that can be used once per round.
Stats Effects
HP: HP is derived from your Avatar cards. It is based on the number of Avatar cards in the battle. For example, if a quest battle has 3 rounds, then the HP from your first Avatar is included. If a quest has 4 rounds, then you will add the HP pool of your first and second avatar card.
ATK / DEF: Attack and defense is derived from your active avatar with the active weapon equipped for the round.
DMG: The actual damage number is mainly derived from ATK versus the receiving DEF.
Avatar Weapon Cap
Your Avatars have a “CAP” number which limits the cost of total weapons that you can hold. This prevent you from equipping too many higher rarity weapons on a low level avatar card.
Rarity System
Both the Avatar and weapons share the same rarity system. These rarity rankings are as followed: N, HN, R, HR, and SR. In general, the higher the rarity ladder, the stronger the character cards are in terms of strength and stats. Higher rarity weapon cards can also upgrade their activation skills.
Star Rating (Resonance)
The star rating is one way that you can make a card stronger with better stats. Your R rarity or higher cards have numbers of stars at the upper left corner. These stars are resonate potentials of how many copies of cards you can combine. You “Resonate” a copy of the same card into the base card. The star will light up and turn into a bluish white color when you resonate.
If the game is similar to other card games, it appears that higher level resonate cards can transfer additional stats. Thus you generally want to max out your card before you resonate.
It should note that to resonate your cards, all the information has to equal. For example:
Avatar requires same name and same rarity.
Weapon requires same name, same rarity, and same element.
Weapon Battle Command Proc Rate
Different weapons in the game has different proc rate for the battle commands. You can check out the weapon details by tap holding on the weapons. The numbers mean the percentage or ratios of how often they would appear with your command roster.
Weapon Animations
All the weapons behave a little different based on their animation, so take a wider swipe, some have shorter distance which allows you to use “Throw” moves more often. Test with different weapons and strategies to figure out the best moves.
Getting Cards
Soulcalibur: Unbreakable Soul offers you different ways to obtain additional weapon or avatar cards in the game. We will go over each of these methods. In general, you should focus on getting the stronger Avatar cards first then work your way to obtain the weapon cards.
This is mainly because your Avatars can gain exp while playing through the quests, while the only way to level up your weapons is through feeding them another card. Another reason is that your Avatars come with a few weapon mastery, your strongest avatar may not be able to equip the strong weapons.
Shop
Using the real world currency gem is the best way to obtain stronger cards in the game. Your best bet is to save the gems that you obtain through missions and daily awards. You can either save enough for the highest draw, or draw earlier when you have enough for the second tier.
You can also exchange your “spheres” for weapons and spheres. Exchange them as often as you can to upgrade your deck or use them as feeders. The keys to obtain more Spheres is by doing well through your questing. Having perfect rounds to have better chances of getting more spheres.
Combine Card Pieces
Under cards, you can combine the card pieces that you have obtained through normal questing. These pieces can be combined into new cards for you.
Energize
Like the card pieces, sometimes you can obtain bronze cards through questing. You can then “energize” and make those cards into new character cards. In general, save your energy stones to energize better cards or cards that you need for sure.
Questing
Quests can rarely drop cards rewards for you. However, most of the farmable cards are only feeder material used to level up your main deck.
Missions and Special Events
Much like questing, these are additional ways for you to obtain more cards.
Improving Your Deck
Other than obtaining new and stronger cards, there are numbers of ways for you to improve your deck further.
Avatar Quest Leveling
By playing through the stages, you can obtain experience points for your Avatars. This is actually one of the best way to level up your avatar as it requires no souls nor feeder cards.
Reinforcement
This method can upgrade both your Avatar and Weapons. You “reinforce” your base cards by feeding them your junk cards. The process requires feeder cards and soul stones.
Auto-Reinforcement occurs automatically when you receive copies of the N or HN rated cards. These copies are spent automatically to upgrade your existing copies while consuming no soul stones.
Resonance
You “upgrade” the star mastery of a given card by feeding it another copy of the same exact card. Read “Star Rating“.
Avatar Weapon Mastery
We mentioned earlier that your newly drawn cards (especially rare ones), only have a few weapons equipped. This means that they may not be able to take advantage of your strongest weapons. You can “teach” or train a random mastery for your avatar by going through the avatar detail screen and select Discipline Mastery. Consume a Warrior’s Memory to get a new weapon mastery.
Note that the Warrior’s Memory unlocks a random weapon slot, it can include a weapon mastery that you have already unlocked, which renders the use worthless. Your best bet is to only use it a couple of times, and save them for your future avatars.
Deck Management Strategy
In this section, we will go through specific strategies to improve and better upgrade your deck.
Only Reinforce SR Cards
As you move through the game, you will quickly find that your R and even HR cards won’t cut it. Thus, save all of your feeders and soul stones for later reinforcement. R cards are not good investment and will quickly be replaced by your stronger cards.
Focus Your Strongest Weapon with Strongest Avatar
This is the best way to edit your deck, as long as you can still beat the quest stages. By focus equipment, you can obtain the strongest sets, which improve your chances of getting perfect rounds in battle.
Split Your Weapons
This strategy only applies when you are having trouble beating the stages. Sometimes when you pair your strongest avatar with the strongest weapon cards, you will find that your second pairs can die at the later rounds. Switch your weapons around so that your strongest avatar equips with second tier weapons. By switching around the weapons, you average out your damage potential which can help you beat the harder stages.
Weapon Copies and Rotation
Using the right weapon for the right stage is crucial in great deck management. Take element and weapon type into consideration when building out your deck. It can help to have multiple copies of the weapon when they are “right”. We would actually recommend you to keep all of your weapon cards so that you always have the best weapon card to use for the perfect scenarios.
Equip Strongest Avatar with Heal Skill Weapon as Your Primary
This additional deck setup strategy helps you to receive more “support request” in battle. Most players only care about strong support in their own game, and the heal skill weapon is one of the most positive support. Put yourself in other player’s shoes and receive more request this way. By having more requests, you can earn more medals which can be exchanged for more cards draws.
