Common Game and Technical Questions

Best way to Gather Materials
Always check if any materials can be requested using the friend request function. By always requesting items, you will save energy on other important items. Some of these include the stone brick, wood plank, wool thread, and more. If possible, it is better to request items and semi-finished materials and products than making them yourself. Focus your own energy on gathering coins and making foods.

Is it Good to Skip Quest Tasks using Crowns
Sadly it is not worthwhile to skip any parts of the Castleville quest using your crowns. The reason is that there are many quest chains that require you to reach a certain level before they unlock. If something is holding you back, simply have the patience to wait for items to be crafted and save up on the coins. You can then gather as much XP as possible before you complete the quest. This way will ensure you to have all the materials as well as resources to move forward.

Is it Good to Explore Castleville Gloom Areas Completely
It is not good to explore the gloom areas unless you absolutely have to, such as the case of needing more land or to satisfy quest requirements. There are couple quest tasks that involve you exploring additional gloom areas. However, by fully explore everything that you can, you will either have to pay alot more coins to explore the upcoming areas or you can be completely stuck in the quest chain. Note that if you have fully explored everything you can and get stuck, you may be able to contact Zynga support for a manual release from the Castle quest.

How to Increase Max Energy in Castleville
The current max energy of Castleville is capped at 25 max energy. There is no way to increase your max energy in game at this point in time. However, there are multiple ways for you to earn back the energy faster in Castleville.

Is the Gloom Rock Useful for Anything
The gloom rock that comes with the gloom area that you can expand is for decor purpose only. It acts the same as any other rock pile or rock mine.

How Many Farming Plots Should You Have
You should have as many farm plots as available for your level. The reason being that some of the later quest all require crops that take a while to grow and harvest. In addition, the more plots that you have, the more likely that your neighbors will tend to them and harvest them for you. In addition, you should use all the placement speed boosts available for in Castleville.

How is Facebook Ranking for Castleville Calculated
The ranking and point system in Facebook is calculated and ranked purely by how much XP that you have in Castleville. Your castle points do not make any differences in ranking within the Castleville. The ranking in Castleville is a good indicator on how far you and your neighbors have progressed in the game. You can check out how to level up faster in Castleville to be able to rank higher on the facebook leader board. However, do note that the leaderboard within the Castleville game itself is ranked through Castlepoints. So if you combine both the Castlepoints plus the Facebook Ranking, you can pretty much accurately guess where your friends are in game.

Estimate Your Castleville Neighbor’s In-Game Level
Because the facebook ranking of Castleville is purely based on EXP. You can use those points to estimate your neighbor’s Castleville level to know how fast you are compared to your peers. However, you cannot have an accurate Castleville level because the ranking does not seem to be real time and there is a time lag between in-game and when it appears on the ranking page.

Deleting and Selling Castleville Decorations or Buildings
The only way to get rid of your Castleville buildings right now is to sell them using the design function of game. You can access the “Sell” Button using the design function.

Rotating Castleville Decoration or Buildings
You can access the building rotation under the design tab.

Store Decoration or Buildings
As of 12/7/2011, there is no way for you to store back the buildings or decorations.

How to Get the Alchemist Powder
You can get the alchemist powder as a visiting bonus when you complete all your neighbor actions in a friend’s kingdom. However, there seems to be a limit of maybe 4~5 powders that you can get in a 12 hour or 24 hour period.

How to Get Down Feather
You can obtain down feather from feeding adult goose. Note that it takes at least 28 days without boost for goose to grow into adulthood. So get them as soon as they become available to you. You should even consider unlocking first with your crowns so you can get a head start.

How to Get Ruby, Iron Ore, and Silver Ore
You can get these more rare ores from mining stone mines as well as collecting from mining camps. An easy way to get these items is from mining your lower level Castleville neighbors, you will be able to get those items without using much energy yourself.

How to Get Diamonds to Sell
There are two ways to obtain the diamonds that some quests ask you to sell. The first way is through mining the stones, note that you can also obtain the diamonds by mining your neighbors stones. The second way is to mine your mining camps. These diamonds do not drop 100% of the time and they drop with a small chance. I would say that the chance feels like about 1~2% however I have not verified it.

How to Get Red and Blue Feather
There are two ways to get Red and Blue feathers to be able to craft the Dye in Castleville.
The first way is to get your peacock to adult level which would take a couple of days.
The second way is to chop trees, however to get feathers effectively, consider using the super chop from the reputation shop to chop down trees faster.

Items to Request
You can request these items when you are building the items. This way you can save up on energy when collecting them.
Cotton, Flax, Oat, Wood Plank, Stone Brick, and Thief Cloth. By not farming, harvesting, and crafting these items, you can save your energy in doing some other useful actions such as collecting from houses for faster Castleville coins.

Unlock the Duke Dungeon Quest
The Duke dungeon castleville quest chain is unlocked after you finish the magical corn quest.

Unlock the Faerie Sylphie Quest
To unlock this quest you, you have to satisfy the following two conditions: Reach level 20 and Finish the Duke Dungeon quest. The Duke dungeon quest is the main thing, if you do not use any crystals to skip any parts of quests, you should hit level 20 by the time you finish the Duke Dungeon quest chain.

General Quest Items
Through out your journey, you will be asked to obtain certain quest items. However, you can get a headstart in collecting them by visiting feeds to collect the items even if you do not need them. This way you will be able to build faster.

How to Groom an Animal
The grooming of the animals refer to one of the helper action that you can do in a neighboring kingdom. Grooming is activated when you tend an animal in the neighbor kingdom that has already been fed. Your best shot at finding an animal that can be gloomed is to look out for peacock or goose that have longer feeding times.

How to Banish or Clobber Castleville Beasties
In castleville, you simply have to click the beasties enough times to banish them depending on their HP. However each “clobber” will take away one point of your energy. This guide will teach you how to banish the Castleville beasts easily.

Quest Stuck If You Already Have a Building Quest is Asking For
The best way to do is to simply delete your building and rebuilding them. Yes it is a waste of resources but it is those little bugs that the Castleville developer has to figure out. For the time being, do not wait for the unknown time, just delete the building and rebuild it to pass the stuck Castleville quest.

Some of these buildings that you can get stuck include:
Some taxable housing buildings.
Resource building like lumber and mining camps.
Royal buildings.
Your best bet is to slow down on the building unless the quest specifically asks you to.

Quest Stuck if You Explored all Areas
Some NPC’s will request you to explore into the gloom areas to complete their quests. However, if you have explored all the areas possible, you will get stuck with your Castleville quest. You should try not to explore everything until you have at least completed Rafael’s quest of exploring two additional quests. However, if you do go overboard and explored everything that you possibly can, consider contacting the Zynga support for their help.

Yvette

Nature Lover
In the quest where Yvette ask you to move animals away from the Beasties. You simply can move any animal inside your kingdom for the move to be accounted for the quest. You do not have to wait to move animal out of the red zone from Beasties.

Where to Get Yvette’s Buttons
At the end of Yvette’s quest chain, you will be prompted to gift her with some buttons. The buttons for Yvette’s quest request can be crafted via the Castleville Studio
.

Once you build the studio, you can craft the buttons necessary for craft using the newly built building. Check this list for the materials needed to craft in Castleville studio. (The list will be added soon)!.

How to Get the Dye Kit
You can craft them via the Castleville studio. However, you do need blue feather which can be a little tricky to obtain. Refer to the top part of this post on how to get the blue feather. Note: The crafting requirement for Dye Kit has changed.

Father’s Love BUG – BE AWARE
There is now a nasty bug that will stop your Father’s Love Quest Chain #4. Where you will find a father’s note after you complete the tasks. However, if you complete the tasks in other people’s kingdom where you need to gain 25 reputation, a note will drop in your neighbor’s Castleville kingdom and it cannot be opened. Once you go back to your own kingdom the note will not be there and you will be stuck with the Yvette’s quest chain. Your only option is to contact support for a manual release, however it will take a while and in some cases players cannot get help from the Zynga support. Make sure you note where you are stuck exactly.

Below is an example of how your should write your support ticket for Father’s Love:
I was in the middle of the Father’s Love Quest chain 4/10. I completed it in neighbor’s kingdom while a note dropped. It was inside neighbor’s kingdom soI cannot open it. I think it is necessary to unlock the next quest chain. However, it does not appear in my own kingdom. Would you be manually start the next chain for me? Thank you.

This is a response from Zynga’s Support:
I understand that you’re having a problem in getting a new quest with Yvette. You don’t have to worry, I already activated the next quest which is Flower Arranging. Jus refresh your game.

However, it will still be roughly 1 day before Zynga can do anything for you. So be careful about how you proceed in this Father’s Love #4 – Housekeeping because we do not know when the bug will be fixed.

Finding Honey
To find honey, you can obtain honey by attending any kind of flowers. You can also obtain honey by attending to your neighbor’s flowers instead of your own so you do not use up your energy.

Berry Sweet
To collect from Neighbor’s bakery can be really hard if you do not have the necessary neighbors who have a decent level. In addition, the neighbor bakeries should always be harvested already. To counter it, you can collect from the Duke’s bakery. Simply refresh the game after you attend Duke’s bakery once, and then reset it to be able to get credit for the quest.

Selling the Cow
At this point of the quest, you should have some cows at the adult stage. However, to satisfy the requirement of the quest. You should buy a new baby cow and sell that one instead. Keep the adult cows that you have.

Placing Keg
If you are an earlier player, note that Zynga has adjusted the maximum amount of Castle-enabled decor for your level. You will need to sell and delete your Small Flags to be able to place the Kegs into your kingdom to count towards the quest. Otherwise, you will be stuck for the quest.

Placing Moats
If your kingdom was as messy as mine, you might have hard time finding a place to build your mote to complete the quest. Just note that mote conflicts with pretty much everything in your kingdom, including buildings, decorations, and brick tiles. Remove all of those items in your kingdom and you should be able to place the motes.

Window Scroll Bug with Click for Quest
The Alastair is currently bugged for the players after you finish the Gloom Lord quest. Simply ignore the NPC for now because there are no more new quests chain for him at your level.

Sylphie’s Request of 15 Gloom Rat Tails
This request might be a bit unreasonable given that the drop rate for Gloom rat tails are not that high. However, the tail is a requestable item. What you can do is to use up all of your tails, if you have 5~6. Then you can request a bunch of them via friends request to be able to complete this request fast.

Banishing Beasties
There are quest that require you to banish beasties. Check out my Complete Castleville Quest Guide. The trick is to let the beasties spawn in your friends kingdoms. For those quests that require you friendly actions, the beasties will spawn in their kingdoms instead if it is the last action. That way, you can spawn Gloom Rat Beasties with spawn potions, you will end up using less energy to complete the required task of banishing Beastie for the Kris Kringle Quest chain.
