Castle Empire Guide to Building and Other Placement
Learning to place your buildings in Castle Empire can be quite confusing if you are new to the game. This guide will teach you everything that you need to know about Castle Empire building placement. Please feel free to leave comment if you see any incorrect. For more helpful tips, check out my Castle Empire List of guides.
Castle Empire Permit Limits
When you are first starting in the Castle Empire Online, you have set numbers of building permits capped at 75. At the beginning it is quite management because you do not have many things to build. However, as you advance further in game, you will start to feel the building permit crunch. This is when you will have to figure out how to get more building permits, or destroy old buildings to make room for the new buildings.
Each one of your buildings require one building permit to build.
When you destroy a Castle Empire building, it will take roughly 30 seconds to 5 minutes before the building permit will be recycled back to enable you to build additional Castle Empire structures.
Because your building permits are quite limited, it is essential for you to upgrade your Castle Empire buildings to take full advantage of the limit building permits.
There are three ways currently in game for you to obtain additional Castle Empire Building permits. There are the following:
Defeating Bandit Leaders will give you 10 more building permits per defeat
Leveling from level 31 to level 32 will give you 10 more building permits.
Buying building permits with Gems.
Basic Castle Empire Building Placement Guide
Plan Ahead Building Placements
It is extremely important for you to plan ahead your buildings before you start building. If you want to change the buildings at a later time, things can get costly.
Place Buildings Close Together
You can save space by placing the buildings close to each other.
Castle Empire Trees
The trees in Castle Empire cannot be moved in game. Once you complete cutting them, a tree slump would exist in its place.
Different Kind of Resources
This is a crash course for those of whom are starting new in Castle Empire. If you have had experience with other real time strategy game such as Settlers, you may find this guide easier to follow. If you like the guide, check out my other informational Castle Empire guides.
Below I will go over these important Castle Empire resources. The resources in Empire Online can basically be divided into the following categories: Settler Population Resource, Building Resource, Building Upgrade Resource, Weapon Resource, and lastly Buff Resource.
To view the specific cost of Castle Empire buildings and their upgrades, you can visit my Castle Empire building cost guide.
Population Resource Chain
Bread: Wheat -> Farm -> Mill -> Bakery
This production chain is the bread and butter of your Castle Empire settler populations. The natural gain of settlers in Castle Empire is slow at 15 minutes a person. You want to boost your population gain speed later on in the game to support the losses that you may have against bandit camps. You can exchange bread into instant settlers via the CEO provision house.
Building Resource
These are resources mainly used to build all of your buildings in Castle Empire. You need to constantly build these resources to be able to construct and upgrade your Castle Empire buildings.
Stone: Stone Mine -> Mason
Fir Wood Planks: Fir Wood Forester -> Fir Wood -> Fir Wood Sawmill
Hardwood Planks: Hardwood Forester -> Hardwood -> Hardwood Sawmill
Tools: Copper Mine + Coal (Coking Plant) -> Toolmaker
Granite: Granite Ore
These resources are the vital source of your Castle Empire buildings. You will need considerable amount of these to complete the first construction of your buildings. However, the use of stones, firwood planks, and tools become less important once you have the buildings built. Because these resources are typically not required for the CEO building upgrades other than the mines.
Building Upgrade Resources
Once you have the buildings constructed, you will need additional resources to improve the level of these buildings. Below are the building upgrade resources that you will need in game.
Hardwood Planks: Hardwood Forester -> Hardwood -> Hardwood Sawmill
Marble: Marble Ore -> Marble Mason
Gold Coin Gold Ore -> Gold Mine -> Gold Smelter -> Coinage
As you can see from the list, hardwood plank is required for both the upgrades and initial construction. This makes Hardwood planks one of the most important building material resource in Castle Empire. Once you have the ability to produce hardwood planks, you should gradually shift your focus of the CEO building permits toward hardwood producing facilities.
Castle Empire Military Resource
Depending on the type of units that you build, the different military units require different resources. However, below is a quick rundown of all the military resources that you will encounter in Castle Empire Online.
The military resource that you will use in Castle Empire include Beer, various swords and bows, horses and cannons.
The common resource that is needed for all the Castle Empire military units are Settlers and Beer. Note that while military troop is trained, the troops will count as one of your population. Therefore it is essential for you to understand how does Castle Empire population work in game.
For beer, water and wheat is required for producing beer within the Brewery, this means that you should log in often to replenish your wheat fields and wells to ensure that beer is constantly being produced for you to train your CEO army.
Buff Resource
The buff resource is the Fishery in game. Fish can be made into buffs that can double your production rate for a certain amount of time. These Castle Empire buffs can be made inside the provision housing.
The magical buffs increase your production rate, however does not increase your consumption. This means that you can effectively gain double of the resources when you buff your buildings. So take advantage of the buffs by building as many fisheries early in the game to generate Fish.
Castle Empire Production Building Placement
Place production buildings close to the front corner of the Mayor’s House or a store house to maximum production time. You maximize the production time by stopping the workers from walking around the building to reach the front corner.
However, for the production buildings that use resources that are harvested such as stones, fir woods, and others. It is better to place the production buildings close to them for the same effect of boosting Castle Empire production speed.
About Store Houses
The storehouses are equal in all places. For example, if you build two different store houses, all the resources are shared among them. So you will have more ways of placing your store houses next to the production buildings.
Building Chain Tip
If you have multiple buildings that rely on one another. Place your most basic production building next to the store house. This way it ensures that your production chain will not be broken due to insufficient training time.

Population Consideration
Settlers play a major role into your game play. In this guide we will explore everything that you need to know about Settlers in Castle Empire. We will go over what these CEO settlers do, how to get the settlers fast, and how to avoid not having enough settlers to work in your buildings as well as populate your Empire with troops.
Castle Empire Population Limit
The population limit in Castle Empire is determined by how many and levels of upgrades of your CEO residences and Noble residences. Building the CEO noble residence is one of the best way to spend your gems other than getting the building permits. To increase the population limit of your settlers, you will have to either build more residences or upgrade
Getting More Castle Empire Settler Population
Settlers Auto Regeneration
You will get 1 settlers automatically every 15 minutes assuming that you have not hit the settlers CAP.
Using Quest Rewards
Early in the game, you will obtain settlers when you complete certain quests, however if your CEO population cap has already been hit, you will receive the items instead useable in your Star Menu.
Obtain Settlers using Provision Building
There are a couple items that you can get with settlers in the Castle Empire provision building. The item and costs are as followed:
25 Bread for 1 Settler: Wayfaring Settler
125 Bread for 5 Settler: Traveler Family
625 Bread for 25 Settler: Retired Bandits
Because the ratio of obtaining the settlers using bread in the provision building is the same, it might be best to use the 25 bread early in the game to cover any emergency population and worker needs. However towards the end of the game, depending on your playing style you may want to exchange for the 625 bread settler instead.
Adventure Rewards
Depending on the Castle Empire adventures, you may receive different types of rewards, one of which may include the settler population reward that you can use under the star menu.
Another Use of Settler Population
Another biggie in the idle population usage in Castle Empire is to train your combat troops. Having a strong army is especially important in the game, you should always be training and getting more troops so that you can conquer additional sectors. When the settlers are registered as your troops, they also take up a population space until they die in battle. Because of this, you should always keep a tab on your maximum settler population limit to ensure that your settlers are always growing, by having a ever large population, you ensure that your CEO troops force will not run dry.

Economy
Economy is a big word in real time strategy games such as Castle Empire Online. What is economy, and how you can achieve economy in CEO will be thorough explained in this post.
When you think economy, you think about the best ways to produce resources for your Castle Empire settler town. Below are the ways that you can do to increase the economy of your productions.
You will increase the production rate of your buildings when you upgrade them. Every level of upgrades can boost your production rate by 1 additional product made. By being able to upgrade some or all of your CEO buildings, you can obtain higher economy for the limited land spaces and/or building permits that you may have.
In Castle Empire Online, the transportation time between each of your resource buildings, the yard, and the storehouse or Mayor’s house play a huge part into the economy calculation. You want to build the product buildings close to your storage houses and your other buildings such as residences and taverns away from those buildings. By minimizing the goods transportation time, you can effectively boost your economy and production rate. Check out the guide to CEO building placement.
To ensure that your Castle Empire economy is functioning properly, you must ensure that no part of your supply chain is broken. By ensuring that all parts of your production chains have the necessary materials, you can maintain the 100% production rate of your Castle Empire Economy. Consider taking a look at some of the suggested CEO building ratio guide and calculator.
There are various buffs that you can make within the Castle Empire Provision building. These buffs can increase your production rate by 100% thus boosting your economy.
Combat is a huge part of the time because it is the only way for you to level up. To utilize the best combat economy, you should minize all of your troop losses to the melee type units which have higher HP. In addition, combine the use of melee units and ranged units to achieve damage that can kill the enemies within one round of fighting. By minimizing your Castle Empire troops losses, you in turn can save resources for your other economy.
Take advantage of trading by trading your excess resources with the resources that you need. This boost your overall kingdom and empire economy because you can focus on building and making certain resources that are in demand by other players.
There are various loots, quests rewards that you obtain throughout the game. If you do not really need to use those items right away, you should consider saving them when you really do need them. These resources will come in handy to plug any supply chain holes that you may have with your Castle Empire Online planning.
Towards the end of this post, I want to stress on the importance of real time game play. Take consideration of your real life time as a crucial resource toward your in-game economy. Do you have the time to log in often and replenish your wheat fields, water wells, and others? Take full control of your game play time to improve the economy by planning around your real life schedule with in game schedules is key to success.
Buffs
Buffing is an important factor of the game in Castle Empire. Buffing correctly can boost your production economy, double the resource gain, and shorten the time of your expansion. Below is an analysis on what you should do to maximize this amazing aspect of the Castle Empire buffing. Remember to check out my other useful Castle Empire guides to build better and more efficiently in game. This guide will walk you through everything that you need to know about buffing in Castle Empire
You can obtain the buffs through the provision house at the following costs:
Fish Plate:
Cost: 10 Fish
Boost production 2x for 30 minutes, Friend buff for 45 Minutes
Solid Sandwich:
Cost: 40 Fish, 20 Bread
Boost production 2x for 2 Hours, friend buff for 3 Hours
Aunt Irma’s Gift Basket
Cost: 120 Fish, 40 Bread, 20 Sausages
Boost production 2x for 6 hours, friend buff for 9 hours
The time it takes to create each of the buff becomes increasingly higher as you create the higher level buffs. By upgrading the Castle Empire Provision building, you can lower the amount of time it takes to build each of the buffs.
Fish Plate requires roughly 5 minutes.
Solid Sandwich requires roughly 12 minutes.
The Gift Basket requires roughly minutes.
The buffs come with a price, this is the price of the buff that you will need to consider when you buff each one of your buildings, you do not want to use your strongest and most costly buff on the low level building.
The priority of the buffs should be first to temporary plug any holes within your production chain. The reason being that your higher level production buildings will half if you do not have the baseline materials. However, if your entire chain is setup correctly and efficiently, the most worthwhile buildings to buff are the highest level items in your chain. For example, the bronze sword is the best production building to be buffed compared to Coking plant.
Within the chain of buffs, you want to buff the buildings that take the least time to complete the production. This means that the buildings that you want to focus the buffs on should also be close to the store houses based on Castle Empire building placement guide. The reason is that buffs still work based on your base production time. So the less time it takes to produce, the more profit that you will make.
When buffing the buildings, consider the amount of extra resources you obtain by buffing the buildings. Because buffed buildings produce 100% extra resource without consuming the raw material, you can essentially gain more money and gold coins to generate higher profit, your job is to figure out which buff give you best return of investment based on the current Castle Empire marketplace.
Another thought on buffing in Castle Empire is that you should buff the mines that gets diminished over time and need to be rebuilt. These include the Copper, Iron, Gold, and others. Because you need to spend extra resources to rebuild the mines when they become exhausted, it is more profitable if you can buff the entire production chain of those said resources.
Friendly buffs are great in Castle Empire unless you get the buffs back when you buff other players. In this case, trust is key in getting and giving more buffs. By having friendly buffs from your Castle Empire friends, the buff time duration have a boost of an additional 50% time. If you can, always try to find Castle Empire buff partners so that you and your partner can advance together in game.
Longer time frame buffs should be used whenever you have a long AFK period. However, you should keep a tab on the cost effectively of using the longer time frame buffs such as the Gift Baskets. Because Sausage is used as a part of the buff creation, it might make lower level buildings less desirable for the Castle Empire buff to be used.
Lastly, combine the buffs with the raw materials that you can get via the Marketplace. One of the strategy that I used is to buy Fir Wood for 3 Gold coins, Buff my Coking Plants and Sell the Coals made for 10 Gold Coins. This means that this method will turn out a profit of 4 Gold coins per every stack of Coals that you produce via this trading method. You can practically apply this method to all the Castle Empire production chains that you can think of.
